#1 Secret to Success in All Things

I have a secret weapon. It is a weapon that sorts the winners from the losers in the silent war between success and failure. And it is this:

Write your goal down.

It’s one of those things that’s so easy, so simple, so laughably obvious that no one does it. It’s not a goal until you write it down.

“Why should I write my goal down? It’s not like I don’t know what it is.”

Now, that may be true. However, there’s magic in the written word. It has transformative properties. It will transform the goal that has been in your head for years, layered in dust and so old it is plagued by some sort fungal infection. It will transform it into an actual goal. A goal that you will do something about, today.

It will force you to articulate your goal. It will force you to think about where you are in relationship to your goal. It will force you to think about how to get from where you are to where you want to be.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that it’s not necessary because you already know what your goal is.

We can argue forever about whether or not writing down your goal is necessary. About whether or not writing things down actually has any effect. About whether or not you’re just different from everyone else and writing things down, for some reason, has no effect on you. You can believe that your unwillingness to write down a goal is an indication of some sort of higher order rationality…and not just a rationalization. Or, you can write down that goal and watch your written words transform you, inside and out.
